How I Turn Failure Into Opportunities for Growth

You know you’re going to fail, right?

Twice now in the last 3 days, I’ve been asked how I always manage to make the right decisions.

Both times I laughed to myself.

Flawlessly dealing with the pressures of business and life is impossible, and anyone who says they do is putting up a front.

The reality is…

I’m not always making the best decisions.

I’m not always doing and saying the right things.

I’m not always ecstatic about the results I get.

I do make mistakes.

I do get upset.

I do fail.

But I don’t sit around and whine about it.

I accept whatever it is I’m faced with.

I say “yes” to anything that happens and I deal with it the best way I can.

I reflect.

I start over.

I strategize a better approach.

And if I need to, I get help.

I surrender the voice in my head that thinks it knows it all—the one that likes to play the victim when it doesn’t get its way—and I open myself to new and better approaches.

Why?

Because I know that there isn’t one problem that I can face that hasn’t been solved by somebody else.

So, I use practices like exercise, meditation, and breathwork to defeat that voice in my head—the one that wants to whine, quit and complain.

And I read and talk to people who know more than me in the specific fields I want to make progress in.

Just like that, I turn “failures” into opportunities for growth.

We’re all human and we all face difficulties.

It’s not about always making the right decisions. It’s about making the best out of the decisions we’ve made.

The alternative… turn into a pompous, self-centered, egotistical prick who’s always pointing fingers at others.

But nobody wants to be that guy, right?
