Deciding to Change

So, things aren’t going the way you want them to.

Maybe you’re depressed, out of shape, and you wake up unmotivated.

Maybe your finances suck; or, you just feel unfulfilled and would like to accomplish more.

You have this idea, this vision, of things being better – of you being better.

And, you realize things need to be different from what they are now.

You realize things need to change – you need to change.

That’s good!

That means you have a goal in mind, and you want the good life.

And, that means you’re talking the first step – by DECIDING to go for it.

Now, as you can probably tell, I like playing with words.

And, decision is a pretty cool word.

It comes from the Latin word, ‘decidere’, meaning “to cut off.”

As in, cutting off all other options.

Because, well, why not?

You WANT the good life. You DESERVE the good life.

It’s your natural right to be happy. To be healthy. To feel good about what you’re doing.

And, you know accomplishing your goal will get you that much closer.

Or, at least, it’ll make things way better than they are now.

I agree. It will.

So, it’s settled.

We’re cutting off all other options.

What now?

Now, we do what the human organism is best at.

We Adapt. We change.

“The only way to make sense out of change is to plunge into it, move with it, and join the dance.”- Alan Watts

Don’t worry. You’ve done this before, many times actually.

Sure, maybe nature forced it on you (like with this pandemic), but that’s just proof that you’re capable.

This time though, you’re going to be the cause.

This time, you’re going to steer the ship.

And, I’m going to tell you the secret to making it happen, and making it last.

No, it doesn’t require an iron will.

You don’t need to FORCE your way into it.

What it does require though, is heartfelt intention, and some effort.

You have to know, deep down, that you do want to make this change happen.

You have to believe, at your core, that this change is good for you.

And, it is good. Change itself is good. It’s natural. And, now, it’s necessary.

For you, for your well being, and so that you can show up better for others who need you – and, they do need you.

So, you ready for the “secret”?

It’s simple really.

Here it is.

The secret to changing your life’s circumstances is that you MUST CHANGE your IDEA of yourself.

What’s that mean?

Well, each of us has deep in the depths of our subconscious minds a “mental blueprint” of who we think we are.

This mental blueprint was labelled the ‘Self-Image’ by one of the great leaders of 20th century psychology, Maxwell Maltz.

He (re)discovered that our self-image has a direct connection to our habits, and that if one were to change, so would the other.

So, now, who’s the type of person that has your goal ALREADY accomplished?

What habits do they have?

What are their views?

How do they think?

If you can “decode” the self-image of the person who has your goal accomplished, you can begin by slowly implementing those attributes into your way of being.

You don’t have to go slow. You can go fast.

I just say slowly because it’s a daily discipline.

Remember, you spent x amount of years building this self-image.

It’s not going to change over night.

That’s where the ‘heartfelt intention and effort’ part comes in.

You have to want it, and you have to have your reasons why.

Then, you’re on your way.

“You’ll never change your life until you change something you do daily. The secret of your success is found in your daily routine.”- John C. Maxwell
