The money. The house. The cars.
The luxury. The so-called freedom.
All the toys you can play with, and more money than you know what to do with.
It sounds nice, right?
As an entrepreneur, I look around and see some who’re deeply inspired and aspire to reach it.
I also see others who’re envious of those who have.
I don’t blame anyone.
There’s a lot of pleasure there. A lot of convenience. Many would enjoy it.
So you may want that lifestyle, and that’s cool.
But, have you thought about what it comes with?
See, often times, we’re quick to look at something and immediately judge it.
We don’t take the time to think deeply, look under the hood, and truly examine what it’s all about.
It’s the easy thing to do – I know I’ve been guilty of it before.
Except, it’s not the right thing to do.
Nor is it the intelligent thing to do.
From what I’ve experienced, this universe is boundless and infinity complex.
We never really know what’s in front of us, or what comes with the things we think we want.
Right before our eyes, we have a REAL epidemic taking the lives of thousands.
But, at the same time, it’s giving mother nature the opportunity to heal itself.
On the surface, it’s devastating.
Looking deeper, we see the beauty behind it.
In the philosophical communities, this idea is referred to as the Principle of Polarity – Everything has two poles, and everything has its opposite. Everything “is” and “isn’t” at the same time. All truths are but half truths and every truth is half false.
In other words, there’s two sides to everything.
Having a limited human intellect, we often get caught up with the story that’s easiest to tell ourselves.
Quick to jump to conclusions.
“This lifestyle is… This person is… This country… This job…”
We’re all guilty of it on some degree.
“Thinking is difficult, that’s why most people judge.”
– Carl Jung
When it comes to lifestyle design, I think it’s especially important to really examine our desires.
Sometimes, the thing we think we want could come with responsibilities that would literally tear us apart.
Other times, the things we’ve written off could bring us the genuine satisfaction we crave.
Really, at the end, it’s all relative.
We won’t know until we experience it.
But, if we’re smart enough – and I believe you are – we can study, do some research, and come up with a pretty good guess.
In the end, it’s better to be HAPPY than rich.
It’s better to have LOYAL, DEPENDABLE relationships in the place of cars, boats, and jets.
It’s better to feel real FULFILLMENT through the process of your work, instead of constantly looking for the results.
At least, those are the things that sound nice to me.
And, if you’re smart – and I believe you are – those are the things that should sound nice to you.
Let’s not hate on the rich.
Nor on materialism.
Instead, let’s use our minds.
Let’s think. Let’s study. Let’s communicate.
Let us share our ideas and experiences instead of our judgments.
The true enemy is ignorance.
And that, my brothers and sisters, is the real root of all evil.
